Family
Camp
One hot weekend in
July saw a group of families and leaders gather for a
“The Family Camp”
If you have ever
wondered what your child gets up to on a cub/scout camp then this was the place
to find out. As a person who has
never been a scout nor camped before, it was with some trepidation that I joined
the group. I need not have worried
as I had one of my most enjoyable weekends in a long time.
We were entertained
with a series of challenges and games that allowed you to spend time and work
with your child and see them solve problems that even had some adults troubled. The children thrived in the camp, and it was impressive to see their
confidence in tackling the tasks presented; be it comedy acting, putting up the
tents or simply getting across shark infested grass on planks between boxes! I
even learned that one son can cook, or is at least willing to try!
This camp just goes
to prove that children can be entertained without the aid of televisions or
play-stations. Please note that when
the next family camp is announced I shall be near the front of the queue with my
permission slip from the wife.
My thanks to all
those who took time to organise the camp, and to all those people who attended
and made it such a good time.
